Local Browser Data Commitment: ALAS Browser keeps browsing history, tabs, bookmarks, quick links, and preferences on your device by default. The app does not request or read phone number permissions. Ads, websites, search engines, and user-initiated sharing can still transmit data as described below.
1. Scope
This Privacy Policy describes how ALAS Browser ("ALAS Browser", "we", "our", or "us") manages information when you use the ALAS Browser mobile application and related services (collectively, the "Service"). The browser is designed to keep your browser data local by default while clearly disclosing third-party services and user-directed data transfers.
2. Data We Process
2.1 Browser Data and Account Privacy
ALAS Browser does not transmit your browsing activity, personal credentials, or usage metrics to ALAS Browser servers. WebView engine metrics are explicitly opted out via system configurations (android.webkit.WebView.MetricsOptOut = true).
2.2 Locally Stored Browser Data
The following information is stored on your local device in app-private storage and is not uploaded to ALAS Browser servers:
- Browsing history, open tabs, bookmarks, and quick links
- Website cookies, HTTP cache, and local web storage
- Saved passwords and form autofill data (stored locally if enabled)
- Downloaded files, download history, and app preferences
2.3 Local Storage and Future Sync
All bookmarks, tabs, browsing history, downloads, and preferences remain strictly on your Android device. Remote cloud sync is not active in this release. If optional encrypted cloud backup is introduced in future releases, users will receive explicit opt-in prompts before any data transfer takes place.
2.4 Ads, Crash Diagnostics, and Third-Party SDKs
ALAS Browser includes Google Mobile Ads to show banner ads. Google may receive advertising identifiers and ad-related device or interaction signals according to Google's policies. The app may also include crash reporting code; when crash reporting is configured for a build, diagnostic crash data can be sent to help fix stability issues.
2.5 Technical & Site Compatibility Data
The app performs standard operations to fetch public web resources, search queries sent directly to your selected search engine, or filter lists for ad blocking. If you type a phone number or other personal information into a website, search engine, sync file, backup file, or share sheet, that transfer is user-directed.
3. Optional Local AI
ALAS Browser may include optional Local AI features such as AI chat, summarize current page, ask current page, explain selected text, and rewrite selected text. Local AI is user-controlled and can be disabled in Settings.
- AI prompts, selected text, visible page text, generated answers, and AI chat history are processed on-device using the selected local GGUF model.
- ALAS Browser does not send Local AI prompts, selected text, page content, generated answers, or chat history to ALAS Browser servers.
- Model files are downloaded only after the user chooses a model download. Model downloads are stored in app-private storage and are separate from normal browser downloads.
- Local AI may store AI chat history, model files, temporary page indexes, embeddings, and related preferences locally so features can work across sessions.
- Users can delete AI chats, embeddings/page indexes, downloaded models, or all Local AI data from Settings > Local AI. Users can also disable Local AI at any time.
AI-generated answers can be incomplete or inaccurate. Users should review AI output before relying on it for important decisions.
4. How We Use Data
Local data is processed on-device exclusively to:
- Provide core browsing, tab management, bookmarking, and file downloading
- Store and restore your local browser preferences and custom search options
- Block intrusive ads and trackers locally without sending request URLs to central servers
- Run optional Local AI features on-device when enabled by the user
- Ensure fast page rendering and offline resource caching
5. Legal Bases for Processing
Where applicable under data protection laws, processing of local data relies on contract performance (delivering requested browser functionality) and your explicit consent for device permissions.
7. International Transfers
ALAS Browser does not operate central user database servers for your browsing profile. Web, search, advertising, and optional diagnostic requests may be processed by third-party providers in the countries where they operate.
8. Data Retention & Local Control
All local browser data stays under your control. You can clear history, cookies, cache, AI chats, AI embeddings/page indexes, downloaded AI models, or app storage at any time via the in-app settings or Android App Settings > Clear Storage. Automatic cloud backup is explicitly disabled (allowBackup="false") to prevent unauthorized cloud sync.
9. Security Measures
We implement local Android app-sandboxing, process isolation for Incognito Mode (:incognito), and R8 minification with stripped debug logs (Log.v/d/i/w) to ensure maximum binary security.
10. Your Rights
Since ALAS Browser stores data locally on your device, you have full control to view, export, or permanently delete your browsing data directly within the app.
